The tune uses anticipation of note in the chord.
The 3rds always played in the latter verse, creating anticipation.
Or, from a different view, the 5th is suspended to next verse, i.e. suspension.
Melody uses quieter notes plays at different/lower octave to give an illusion of there's more polyphony.
And the usual Left right channel PWM phase/detune trickery for stereo separation.
Sidechain global volume emulation for FAT Kicks on Beat.

When this is all done and set, I get a reminder of some of AdLib Tracker II OPL2 demo tune from it.

Thus I selected a FM kick drum, sample it, to further suggest the OPL2 alikeness.
