It seems that the issues turn up if shell.prg is run from hostfs (at least on Linux and most likely on MAC as well)
I am not sure if there is an easy fix for this?
cat shell-files/motd.txt and cat SHELL-FILES/MODT.TXT both show the motd.txt file.
