Ah, well, just did a little searching online for 1571 behavior and it sounds like mine has a fault in it, so probably not going to bother with trying to get it into the case, and will just use the SD card for everything... So probably going to go with the white case I was looking at. I don't feel like going crazy trying to debug and fix the 1571. It could be any number of the different ICs inside that is causing the problem...

LED and motors staying permanently on makes me think the CPU isn't running, but I'm not an expert at repairing these.

Yeah that's the first item in the repair guide to swap out... And since I don't happen to have spares around I'm not even going to bother... Now if it was a 68000, I have like 3 of those... Oh well!
