That turned out to be the fault of my subwoofer. It was a 90s vintage unit, and the amplifier had finally just failed. When I ran some test tones through the system, it would work when first turned on, but fail after a few minutes. The sound would just start to "splat", which is typical of an amplifier with a bad phase (either the positive or negative phase is not operating.)Gilbert11 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 18, 2023 7:35 amIt's also interesting to hear that you're having trouble with your receiver not passing audio through to the subwoofer in stereo mode. Adding a second sub for LFE sounds like a good solution, and it's always exciting to have a dedicated sub for low-frequency sounds.
Does anyone collect records?

Also, I ended up going back to an Audio Technica cartridge. The Ortofon cartridge was just too noisy: it seems to pick up mechanical noise from the turntable that the AT cartridge doesn't get.
I'll hang on to the cart, but it will only ever get used if I find a belt drive table for a reasonable price.
